Black rhinoceros - Diceros bicornis - DeCLAY Studio
Karanja was a famous male Eastern Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis michaeli) that lived in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. Best known for his exceptional age, calm temperament, and remarkable horns, he was one of the few black rhinos ever recorded with three horns, the third being a small horn behind the usual pair. His main horn reached about 86 cm (34 in) and curved over the rear horn, giving him a distinctive appearance.
